About Us

Youth Community Gardens is a fictitious non-profit organization. We partner with local schools (K-12) to provide students with access to gardening, and help educate them about farming and growing food locally. Our programs provide both education and service learning opportunities. Our gardens are hosted on public or school land. Our program sponsors donate seeds and gardening supplies. Student volunteers, their parents, teachers, and others from the community maintain the garden.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help children learn about food sourcing and promote healthy eating lifestyle choices. By knowing the origins of food, we hope children will choose to include more natural grown food (e.g. fruits, vegetables, herbs) in their daily diets. We believe this will help reduce childhood obesity.

How children benefit from our program? Through this program students learn about farming and agriculture, sustaining natural resources, nutrition and healthy eating, and contributing to society through volunteering.

What do we do with the produce grown? Through an on-site farmer market, our garden produce is sold with proceeds benefiting the school. A share of the produce also goes to the school’s lunch program and to help stock local food shelves to ensure others with less financial resources have access to fresh produce.
